Frequently Asked Questions
We aim to create a space that is open for and available to all. As such, there is no cost associated with playing on a DPSI sports team. Please see below for two unique exceptions.
- Student-athletes playing on a fall team are invited to the overnight Greenkill trip for the first week of the season. There is an associated cost due to transportation, lodging, meals and additional coaching. Families receiving financial aid can apply the same percentage of financial aid to this trip. We work to ensure every interested student-athlete can attend regardless of cost.
- Student-athletes are responsible for the return of their full uniform at the end of each season and must pay for the cost of lost or damaged uniforms.
Students can join a Calhoun team beginning in 7th grade. Those eager to participate in Athletics before then can do so through our After School Programming and Saturday Sports Clinics.
Our mission statement includes the following:Â At DPSI, we use sports as a vehicle to empower students with leadership skills they can use both on and off the court, field or track. We firmly believe sports have something to offer everyone, regardless of skill-level or experience. If you are interested in being on a team and willing to make the commitment, we want you involved.
Research also shows that young athletes don’t peak until 10th grade — we don’t know how good someone will be if they miss out on the chance to train and grow.
Yes! We admire and encourage the risk it takes to try something new. And we understand the scaffolding and support needed to make that first-time experience a positive one. Our bigger programs have developmental teams for those who are new to the sport and would benefit from additional fundamentals training. Regardless of sport, all of our coaches are practiced in holding multiple skill-levels in one space and ensuring everyone is supported and challenged.
Practice schedules depend on level:
- Middle school teams practice about 3 times/week.
- JV teams practice 4-5 times/week.
- Varsity teams practice 5-6 times/week.
DPSI Athletics provides bus transportation to and from off-site practices and games/meets. Buses always leave from and return to school. Only Calhoun coaches, student-athletes and managers are permitted to ride. Unfortunately, we cannot take families but sometimes offer separate fan vans for bigger events!
Head to our school store to get all the DPSI gear you need. Student-athletes also have the option to purchase additional gear through our seasonal Athletics stores.
